Manchester United fans protested the Glazer’s ownership of the club with a rally ahead of the Premier League match against Aston Villa at Old Trafford on Sunday. The rally was attended by hundreds of Manchester United fans and a banner saying ‘Full Sale Only’ headlined it. Among the other slogans were: ‘We want our club back’ and ‘Some things are worth fighting for’.

The Glazers bought Manchester United in 2005 for £790 million, using a leveraged buyout that saddled the club with debt. Since then, they have taken out more than £1 billion from the club in dividends, interest payments and fees, while allegedly investing little in the squad and the stadium. In recent years, the club has faced criticism and protests from some of its supporters, who are unhappy with the ownership and management of the club by the Glazer family.

They have also tried to appease the fans by appointing a fan advisory board, promising more investment in the squad and infrastructure, and apologizing for their involvement in the Super League fiasco back in 2021.
