Gabriel Davis, wide receiver for the Buffalo Bills, took a sliding catch near midfield against the Miami Dolphins in the NFL playoff game at the Highmark Stadium on Sunday. It was ruled incomplete initially.
However, Buffalo coach Sean McDermott threw the challenge flag and the decision was overturned. WR Stefon Diggs celebrated with enthusiasm.
“Momentum all #Bills right now. HUGE successful challenge on the Gabe Davis catch that was originally ruled incomplete. Josh Allen looks in COMPLETE control, AKA Mr. January. #MIAvsBUF #BillsMafia,” wrote one user on Twitter.
“Sean McDermott challenge is successful as Gabe Davis in fact did catch a pass from Josh Allen on that last play. 19-yard gain,” said another user.
“Gabe Davis made that catch but our first team all-pro WR can’t catch when it hit him right in the chest,” a Dolphins dan rued.
Davis, a fourth-round pick by the Buffalo Bills in the 2020 NFL Draft, was signed on a $3.99 million contract which included a bonus of $699,000.
He played for the Bills in the Wild Card round playoffs in his very first season against the Indianapolis Colts. He caught a total of four passes for 85 yards which included two sideline grabs that led to Buffalo’s second touchdown.
The Bills won the game 27-24 – their first playoff win in 25 years.
In the 2022 season, Dave finished with 171 receiving yards and two downs in a game against the Pittsburgh Steelers on week 5.
In the first quarter, Davis caught a touchdown pass for a career-high 98 yards, and four drives later, with one hand, he caught another touchdown pass for 62 yards as the Bills prevailed 38-3.
His 98-yard catch was a Bills record for the longest TD reception.
