Gareth Bale, Wales’s all-time leading goalscorer and one of Britain’s most decorated football players has announced his retirement from professional football midway through his contract at Los Angeles FC, which was due to expire this summer.

The five-times Champions League winner got emotional as he stepped away from the game. 

“My decision to retire from international football has been by far the hardest of my career,” Bale said on Monday. “My journey on the international stage is one that has changed not only my life but who I am.”
