Just days before the Tokyo Olympics, Washington Wizards guard Bradley Beal had to withdraw from the Summer Games and was placed under USA Basketball’s health and safety protocols on Wednesday.

However, his departure opened a spot for another basketball star to make their way in the United States men’s national team. One of the leading contenders for the spot was Atlanta Hawks point guard Trae Young

He averaged 25.3 points and 9.4 assists per game over 63 games in the regular season and led Atlanta to the playoffs for the first time in his career. In the playoffs, Young outdid his regular-season numbers, averaging 28.8 points and 9.5 in 16 postseason games on the way to the Eastern Conference Finals.

But looking at a few cryptic tweets from the 23-year-old ahead of the announcement of the replacement, hints that he’s out of the running for the roster spot with Team USA.

Taking to Twitter, Young posted a clip from “The Last Dance,” a documentary on the playing days of Michael Jordan, that showed 12-time All-Star point guard Isiah Thomas talking about the time he was being left off the 1992 Dream Team.

“I don’t know what went into that process. I met that criteria to be selected, but I wasn’t,” Thomas was heard saying in the clip. Young added a sad face and American Flag emoji in his post.

Meanwhile, the Pistons legend himself reacted to Young’s tweet with a few crying-laughing emojis.

Team USA has not yet announced a replacement for Beal and is set to do so at a later time.

But the timing of Young’s tweet suggests he has a good idea about who should fill it.

Young not making it into the team for the Olympics even in the initial squad was a little surprising and if he might be left out again, the point guard might be justified in making his emotions known.

Meanwhile, USA Basketball, on Thursday, announced the cancellation of an exhibition game between the U.S. men’s basketball team and Australia, scheduled for Friday in Las Vegas due to COVID-19 protocols.

The move was made out of an abundance of caution.

Reportedly, Team USA’s Jerami Grant has entered health and safety protocols on Thursday. However, he did not test positive for COVID-19.
