Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma became the first batsman to score 1000 runs against one team in the IPL. He reached the landmark with a boundary to fine leg off Kolkata Knight Riders’ Varun Chakravarthy on Thursday. 

Sharma needed only 18 runs to get to 1000 runs against Kolkata. David Warner, with 943 runs against Punjab Kings, is second on the list.

Rohit Sharma, who was not a part of Mumbai Indians’ playing 11 against Chennai Super Kings, gave his team a flying start in the powerplay. He and South African opener Quinton De Kock scored 56 runs in six overs. 

Sharma was dismissed off Sunil Narine. He scored 33 runs in 30 balls.

“Feeling good. Looking forward to the game,” Sharma said ahead of the game. 

Anmolpreet Singh missed out after making his debut against CSK. Saurabh Tiwary retained his spot as Hardik Pandya was kept on the bench.

“Not a lot to be honest (on what he spoke about the last game). Certain basics of cricket that was missed, we need to do right. We have spoken about it and hopefully we can execute today. It is a good positive to have but I personally understand that every day is a new day. T20 is a format that you have to be good on that particular day,” the Mumbai Indians batsman said, addressing their loss against MS Dhoni-led Chennai. 

Mumbai Indians have dominated Kolkata Knight Riders over the past few years, the latter managing to win only one game in the last 12 fixtures. The defending champions currently occupy the fourth spot on the points table after eight games.
