In the first match of 2022 IPL’s first double-header, Rishabh Pant, captain of Delhi Capitals, won the toss and chose to field against the Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai Indians, at Mumbai’s Brabourne Stadium on Sunday.

Both sides are missing a few players. MI will have to do without the services of Suryakumar Yadav, the middle-order specialist, who’s in rehab at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) after suffering a hairline fracture last month.
DC, on the other hand, has to deal with trouble from players overseas. Reportedly, South African pacer Anrich Nortje is dealing with hip and back problems while Mustafizur Rahman, the Bangladeshi bowler and South Africa’s Lungi Ngidi, could both miss out on the opening game after playing the recently-ended ODI series. David Warner, the team’s dynamic opener, will only take the field after April 5, as a result of Cricket Australia (CA)’s central contract rules.

What did captains say?
Rishabh Pant: We’re going to bowl first. Very excited. The first thing we wanted to was to win the toss (and then he goes on to name his XI). I think the wicket looks nice to bat. In domestic cricket we have played enough here and we’ll be fine.
Rohit Sharma: We would have bowled first as well. It is a fresh pitch and we don’t know what to expect. It looks like a good batting track and there would be a bit of movement because of the green tinge. Whenever we play in Mumbai, we have to adjust quickly because the wickets are fresh. We look forward to being back in Mumbai. There are some restrictions in terms of capacity, but always nice to some crowds in.
