Jerami Grant’s return to the Portland Trail Blazers may be set in stone despite the uncertainty surrounding the team’s future, according to Action Network’s Matt Moore, who notes that “league sources suggest that Portland is already locked in on a new deal worth more than $120 million” with the nine-year veteran.

With the Blazers in 2022–23, Grant averaged 20.5 points per game while shooting 47.5 percent from the field and 40.1 percent from 3-point range, demonstrating that he is the kind of supplementary scorer that a star like Damian Lillard can count on over an entire season. There is even more evidence to think that Grant can continue to have a significant offensive impact thanks to his career average of 20.7 points per game over the past three seasons (two of which he spent with the Detroit Pistons).

Furthermore, at 6-foot-8 and 210 pounds, Grant is one of the most agile players and a competent defender who can handle a variety of matchups.

Therefore, the 29-year-old would be well worth a $120 million contract. Particularly now that seven-time All-Star Damian Lillard is committed to the team through the 2026–2027 campaign.

The Blazers signing Grant to such a contract would undoubtedly bring the team closer to a plane of substantial financial constraints as the franchise is now $64.8 million under the new Super-Tax Apron.

Even if the Blazers are successful in trading Anfernee Simons and Jusuf Nurkic, who are paid a combined $41 million next season, this would still be the case. Firstly, because Portland would probably try to obtain a star player who could command more than $40 million per year if Simons and Nurkic were traded.
