Julian Alvarez has scored a stunning goal for Argentina to make it 2-0 after Lionel Messi put them ahead with a penalty. After the Manchester City forward netted in his goal, his picture with Lionel Messi, when the former was just a kid, has gone viral.

Alvarez did not get a chance in Argentina’s starting XI in their first match of the tournament against Saudi Arabia, but Lautaro Martinez’s poor form gave the youngster a chance to shine. He has now proved his worth by scoring one of Argentina’s finest goals in recent World Cup memory.

He dribbled past three players to score his goal, which reminds one of Diego Maradona’s Goal of the Century in the 1986 quarterfinal match against England.

The earlier goal by Leo Messi has now made his Argentina’s highest scorer in the FIFA World Cup, leaving behind Gabriel Batistuta.

Croatia have to tread cautiously in the game, now that Mateo Kovacic and goalkeeper Dominik Livakovic have both been booked.

Argentina head coach Lionel Scaloni has now opted for a five-man defense, taking Leandro Paredes out of the equation and bringing in Manchester United’s Lisandro Martinez. If Argentina win this match, they will face either France or Morocco in the final. The South American giants had met defending champions France in the round of 16 in the 2018 World Cup in Russia, where they lost with a scoreline of 4-3. Messi and co. will have a score to settle if they indeed meet Les Bleus in the final.
