No other player has won the treble and World Cup in the same year.

Argentina striker Julián Alvarez will remember the 2022/23 season fondly for the rest of his life. He capped off an already incredible season in the most spectacular way possible by winning the coveted Champions League trophy. While receiving Europe’s most coveted award is normally a dream come true for any player, Alvarez, often known as ‘The Spider,’ sees it as yet another addition to a long list of exceptional achievements.

The 23-year-old after moving to Manchester City in 2022 has seen an exponential bust in the trophy cabinet. He has now claimed the Premier League, FA Cup, Champions League, and World Cup, where he provided great resistance through his gameplay.

However, there are some players who won the Treble and World Cup in a single season. Maier, Breitner, Schwarzenbeck, Beckenbauer, Müller, Hoeneß, and Kapellmann achieved a spectacular feat in the 1973/1974 season. These famous Bayern Munich players not only won the European Cup but also went on to win the World Cup with Germany. This was the first time in history that players obtained such twin triumphs.

Karembeu repeated this incredible achievement more than two decades later, in the 1997/1998 season. After winning the Champions League with Real Madrid, he went on to win the World Cup with the French national team shortly afterward. Similarly, Roberto Carlos, who was also a Real Madrid player at the time, completed the same extraordinary double by winning the Champions League with his club in the 2001/2002 season, followed by winning the World Cup with Brazil.
