Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp remained coy about his future on Friday when quizzed about his plans after his current contract with the Reds expires in 2024.

Speaking at the pre-match press conference ahead of Saturday’s important home game against West Ham, the 54-year-old German reiterated his intention to stay until 2024.

However, in what is likely to come as a delight to Liverpool fans, Klopp said that a decision to sign an extension with the Merseyside club could be taken at the “last minute.”

Asked about what would make him extend his stay at Liverpool, Klopp said, “If I have the energy levels for it. That is important. I love what I do but I’ve said a couple of times there must be something else out there in the world, to be honest, apart from always thinking about properly skilled, good-looking, fantastically nice football players.”

“But I really don’t think about it. At the moment I am full of energy but we have to – I have to – make sure that is the case because I don’t want to sit around and be more tired than others and think: ‘Wow, why is everyone bothered about the things out there because I couldn’t care less?’,” the German added.

Klopp went on to speak about his plans and vision for Liverpool, saying, “I don’t have to plan. I could book [extend my contract] last minute – let’s put it like this. It is not a problem. No, the plan is the future of the club that we are constantly working on, that everything is in place and the things we do are not for me, not for us, not for this generation, they are for a long, long time.”

“So many things we’ve tried to improve over the years. It’s about just doing the right things, employing the right people, putting them in the right positions. It doesn’t mean you win the title, it just means you have the right people for the right job, so use them – and that’s what we try. These people – a lot of them are here at the moment – will be good and it will be fine whenever it will be after I leave. The plan at the moment is to do 2024, thank you very much,” he explained.

While the uncertainty about Klopp’s future might be a cause of anxiety for Liverpool fans, the fact remains that 2024 is some time away, and Liverpool are in competition for a possible quadruple this season.

Having already won the EFL Cup and closed the gap on Premier League leaders Manchester City to just three points, Liverpool are well poised for a fantastic run this season. The Reds have also progressed to the quarter-finals of the FA Cup and hold a 2-0 advantage over Serie A side Inter Milan in the Round of 16 tie in the UEFA Champions League, which makes keeps them in the running for a possible quadruple.

That being said, a quadruple is no easy feat, and for now the Reds will do well to secure three points in Saturday’s game against West Ham, who had beaten Liverpool earlier this season, to stay in the title race.
