Los Angeles Lakers’ Kentavious Caldwell-Pope had to leave the court during Friday’s game versus San Antonio Spurs, with a sprain in his left ankle. The third quarter saw the shooting guard score eight of the first 10 points before turning his ankle while taking off for a dunk.

Caldwell-Pope has been a regular for the Lakers, statistics saying only 10 regular season games missed since he joined the franchise in 2017-18. The team’s dependency on him is termed very high, especially after Avery Bradley opted out of the bubble. Him going out for more than a couple of games is going to hurt Los Angeles since replacement will be a tough call.

However, a sideline report retweeted by the Los Angeles Lakers revealed that, while Kentavious Caldwell-Pope wouldn’t participate in the Spurs game, he is expected to be fit for Sunday night.

“KCP was diagnosed with a mild left ankle sprain; he will not return to the game tonight,” the tweet read.

Post match, Caldwell-Pope admitted that he was upset to not have finished the game after an energy burst but the negative X-ray reports are a consolation.

“I knew my energy wasn’t there in the first half and in the second half I tried to change that and came out with great energy, scored eight points. And to go down like that, I was kind of upset. I was starting to warm up, get loose, get into the game flow and then that happened. Fortunately (the X-rays are) negative, thanks for that, but I was a little upset that I didn’t get a chance to finish the game,” he said.
