The New York City Marathon was back in 2022 in full capacity for the first time since 2019. Around 50,000 runners participated in the event. Despite the blistering heat, the men’s and women’s categories of the race were won by Evans Chebet and Sharon Lokedi, two Kenyans.

In the race, Brazil’s Daniel Do Nascimento, who started with a solid lead of two minutes, collapsed after the 20th mile and had to be taken to a hospital. Latest reports suggest he is doing fine.

This is the second victory of Chebet in 2022, who earlier won the Boston Marathon. He completed the race in 2 hours, 8 minutes, and 45 seconds, which is only 9 seconds less than Ethiopia’s Shura Kitata, who finished second with the timing of 2:08:54.

His interpreter later told reporters, “He said it was hard for him to race especially because it was hot”.

Sharon Lokedi, on the other hand, won her debut marathon with a time of 2:23:23. Lonah Chemtai, the Israel marathon runner, came second with a timing of 2:23:30, only seven seconds more than Lokedi. World champion Gotytom Gebreslase came third.
