Thanks to an ice-cold penalty from Kylian Mbappe in the 87th minute, Paris Saint-Germain trumped Angers SCO 2-1 on Friday in Ligue 1 to quickly rebound from their loss last week against Stade Rennais.

With Neymar, Lionel Messi and Angel Di Maria all out injured, Mbappe was left to carry the Parisian attack, which looked lacklustre in the first half. Midfielder Angelo Fulgini opened the scoring for Angers within the opening forty minutes. Although PSG dominated possession, they failed to register even a single shot on target.

However, Mbappe kept threatening the Angers defence with his darting runs and finally found the breakthrough when he set up Danilo Pereira with a chipped cross into the box. The Portuguese defensive midfielder headed the ball home to equalise matters.

Although striker Mauro Icardi was largely marked out of the game, having only 19 touches and a grand total of zero shots on target, he won the penalty late in the second half. Mbappe stepped up to the spot and smashed it into the bottom right corner as the Parc des Princes erupted into celebrations.

Mbappe, who capped off a brilliant week with the victory, also scored the winner last weekend in the Nations League finals against Spain.

Meanwhile, with the victory, Paris Saint-Germain have nine victories and 27 points in 10 matches. Although second-placed Lens have a game in their hands, they are far behind with just 18 points in nine matches.
