Manchester United have often looked toothless in the front since the 2022-23 season began and reports in England and Italy are suggesting that the club will look to sign Lautaro Martinez from Inter Milan in January.

The Red Devils have failed to score many goals in the ongoing season and have often wasted crucial chances. They have scored only 16 goals in the Premier League so far as their goal difference stands at 0, being the only team from the English top flight to have the record.

Cristiano Ronaldo was recently demoted to the reserves for refusing to come on against Tottenham Hotspur and leaving the stadium before the final whistle. However, he has looked far from his usual self this season whenever he has played.

On the other hand, Anthony Martial has suffered several injuries and Marcus Rashford has not looked like a capable striker for the entirety of the season.

Meanwhile, La Gazzetta dello Sport has reported that Manchester United have contacted Inter Milan, enquiring about the chances of signing Lautaro Martinez in January, or the next summer.

Martinez attracted interest from Arsenal, Tottenham and FC Barcelona last summer but signed an extension with the Italian giants. His new deal with the club is worth £186,000 a week and has four years left on his current contract.

The Argentina international has scored five times and assisted twice in 14 appearances across all competitions for Inter Milan this season. He has also attracted interest from Paris Saint-Germain.

However, Manchester United is reportedly trying to persuade the Serie A giants to sell the attacker to them and is willing to offer Cristiano Ronaldo, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Donny van de Beek as part of the deal.

Manchester United are also monitoring PSV Eindhoven’s Cody Gakpo, who has been in impressive form since the season started. Gakpo was on United’s radar in the summer, however, they decided to sign Antony from Ajax, but might return to negotiations in January or the summer for the signature of the Netherlands international.
