American actor Morgan Freeman hosted the FIFA World Cup 2022 opening ceremony at Qatar’s Al Bayt Stadium on Sunday. The show, which also included a performance by BTS’ Jungkook, kicked off with anthems Waka Waka and Waving Flag.
In the opening act of the ceremony, Freeman narrated the story of human unison along with Ghanim Al Muftaha and Dana. They were accompanied by Qatari women, voyagers, camels and camel handlers.

The Bucket List actor then took the audience through all the participating nations in this World Cup. There were LED stick performers on the stage and then volunteers came in with giant flags of all 32-participating teams.
A medley of all iconic World Cup songs and their mascots followed the march. A version of the 2022 edition’s mascot – La’eeb – came in then.

South Korean boy band BTS’ singer Jungkook then came in to perform his famous song Dreamers.
The lyrics of the song go: “Look who we are, we are the dreamers/ We’ll make it happen cause we believe it/ Look who we are, we are the dreamers/ We’ll make it happen cause we can see it / Cause to the one that keeps the passion, respect oh yeah/Cause to the one that keep the passion, respect oh yeah/Cause to the one that got the magic, respect, oh yeah.”

With his performance, Jungkook became the first Asian musician to perform the official anthem of the FIFA World Cup.
