Mahendra Singh Dhoni dived to his extreme right to get hold of the ball coming off KL Rahul’s thick edge to become only the second wicketkeeper to register 100 catches in the Indian Premier League.
Reading the wicketkeeping statistics of the Indian Premier League, one finds MS Dhoni’s name sitting on top of the list of ‘most dismissals’ due to the 139 times his gloves have been involved in sending batsmen back to the pavilion. The Chennai Super Kings skipper with 39 stumpings under his belt has already established the fact that there are no other hands faster than his. After claiming his 100th catch, Dhoni stands right behind Dinesh Karthik who has 103. The Kolkata Knight Riders captain was the first one to register 100 dismissals against his name, when he was a part of Gujrat Lions in 2017. However, as of now Karthik (133) is six dismissals short of the former Indian captain.
KL Rahul continued to pave his way to the top of the orange cap race and became the first batsman to score 300 runs in the 13th edition of IPL. The Punjab skipper scored 63 runs off 52 balls to get to his second half century of this season. However, after thrashing Shardul Thakur to bring his fifty, Rahul went to tame the CSK pacer in his next one, edging an attempted wide yorker.
The Kings XI Punjab put up a 179 run target for Chennai Super Kings with the help of a 33 run cameo by Nicholas Pooran and the finishing touch added by Sarfaraz Khan.
