It’s official. Mumbai Indians can not make it to the playoffs of IPL 2022. Rajasthan Royals’ win agaist the Punjab Kings on Saturday have killed all mathematical possibilities.
With the win, their seventh, RR now have 14 points and are placed at the third on the table. Even if Mumbai Indians manage to win all their remaining games, four, they will have 12 points, same as the Royal Challengers Bangalore, but an inferior net run rate. Hence, MI are officially out.

Now the focus shifts to MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings. With three wins in 10 games, the Yellow Army is placed on the ninth rung of the IPL 2022 points table. They have six points. If they win all their games, including the one vs Mumbai Indians, the defending champions can score 14 points. However, they will need other results to roll in their favour.
Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings, however, still play a big role in the league’s dynamics. They can affect other teams’ qualification by winning or losing crucial ties.

No team is clear at the top. GT and LSG lead with 16 and 14 points respectively, at positions that should get them into the playoffs. However, the battle for the last two places involve RR (12), RCB (12), DC (10), SRH (10), PBKS (10) and KKR (8) on the fence.

The Rajasthan Royals on Saturday defeated the Punjab Kings by six wickets. It was their first victory while chasing in this edition of IPL.
Promising opener Yashasvi Jaiswal made a dream comeback with a career-best 68. Drafted in place of Karun Nair, the 20-year-old showed superb game awareness and picked the gaps at ease in a 41-ball 68 (9×4, 2×6) to brilliantly set it up for the Rajasthan Royals in their tall 190-run chase at the Wankhede which was completed with two balls to spare.
