After losing Kwahi Leonard to a knee injury, Phoenix Suns fans hoped Los Angeles Clippers would be on the back foot in the Western Conference Finals but during the initial phase of Game 1 of the best-of-series, Paul George stepped up to the occasion for Clippers.

At halftime, the game was evenly poised at 57-54, and George high-scored for the Los Angeles side with 17 points and two rebounds. He also successfully completed two steals.

However, as the game progressed, Suns seemed to find their rhythm in front of the 18,000 spectators at the Phoenix Arena. Soon Devon Brooker turned the game on its heels with the first triple-double of his career, scoring 40 points, 13 rebounds and 11 assists as Suns took an early lead in the finals with a 120-114 win

Although Clippers’ fans will be happy with George’s fight till the final whistle to score 34 points, four rebounds and five assists, the likes of DeMarcus Cousins and Reggie Jackson will need to amp up their scoring game.

Meanwhile, the Suns have worries of their own, as shooting guard Chris Paul was out of the first game due to COVID-19 protocols. But Deandre Ayton upped his game to finish with 20 points, nine rebounds and two assists. 

Suns reached the finals after downing Nikola Jokic-led Denver Nuggets, while Clippers trumped Utah Jazz in the semis.
