In the first half itself, Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes registered three passing touchdowns in the game against Philadelphia Eagles and went on to add two other TDs in the fourth quarter.
Mahomes has now recorded at least three passing TDs in each of the games this season and has joined Hall of Famer Steve Young (1998), Kurt Warner (1999) and talismanic Tom Brady (2007) as the only quarterbacks in NFL history with three-plus pass TDs in each of their team’s first four games of a season.
Mahomes threw touchdown passes three different ways to give the Chiefs a 21-13 lead at halftime in Philadelphia.
The star quarterback tossed one underhand, one overhand and another with a shovel pass, including three to Tyreek Hill. The underhanded pass went to Clyde Edwards-Helaire from a yard out. He added a more traditional overhand throw to Hill for a 6-yard score and then a shovel pass to Jody Fortson for a 2-yard TD.
Mahomes threw a touchdown on all three of Kansas City’s drives in the half.
Meanwhile, Jalen Hurts threw for a career-high 387 yards and two TDs but Philadelphia (1-3) couldn’t keep up with Kansas City’s high-powered offence. The Eagles had three touchdowns negated by penalty and settled for field goals three times inside the red zone.
The two-time defending AFC champion Chiefs (2-2) snapped a two-game losing streak after entering with a losing record for the first time since they were 4-5 in 2015.
