Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the former captain of the Indian cricket team, attended the Wimbledon clash between Tennis legend Rafael Nadal and quarterfinalist Taylor Fritz on Wednesday. It was MS Dhoni’s birthday eve.

MS Dhoni is spending his birthday in London with his Sakshi, who posted a video of him cutting a variety of cakes. The couple was also joined by wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant. MS Dhoni was celebrating his 41st birthday, just days after he celebrated his wedding anniversary with his wife Sakshi.

“An Indian icon watching on”, Wimbledon’s official Twitter account wrote along with a photo of MS Dhoni sitting in the stands. A similar photo was shared by Chennai Super Kings, an Indian Premier League team that has largely been captained by MS Dhoni.

In addition to MS Dhoni, other sports legends were also there to witness Rafael Nadal’s quarterfinal clash, which he won 3-6, 7-5, 3-6, 7-5, 7-6 (10/4) after playing on the Centre Court for more than four hours. Indian cricket veteran Sunil Gavaskar and football legend David Beckham also attended.

MS Dhoni was last seen heading Chennai Super Kings in this year’s IPL tournament after Ravindra Jadeja, a left-handed batter, stepped down as the captain. Even though the team could not reach the playoffs, a rare instance for Chennai Super Kings, MS Dhoni dropped hints about returning next year for the tournament.

Nadal, who was seen Wincing from abdominal pain in the quarterfinal game, beat his rival Taylor Fritz. He is now expected to face Nick Kyrgios, a 27-year-old Australian who earned his Grand Slam semifinal debut with a 6-4, 6-3, 7-6 (5) victory over Cristian Garin of Chile.

“For a lot of moments,” Nadal said, “I was thinking, ‘Maybe I will not be able to finish the match.’”
