British broadcaster and journalist Piers Morgan took to Twitter after his controversial interview with Cristiano Ronaldo effectively resulted in the legendary footballer’s bitter exit from Manchester United.
After ManU announced on Tuesday that the club will be cutting ties with the celebrated Portuguese athlete, Morgan tweeted, saying, “The End.” He followed that tweet up with another post which had a picture of Ronaldo holding up an Arsenal shirt with his name and number seven on the back that the journalist had gifted to him. He captioned it: “Time for Phase 2.”

Ronaldo has still not announced if he plans on joining a new club. He has issued a statement of his own, which read: “Following conversations with Manchester United we have mutually agreed to end our contract early. I love Manchester United and I love the fans, that will never ever change.”
“However, it feels like the right time for me to seek a new challenge. I wish the team every success for the remainder of the season and for the future,” he added.

His statement came after the club announced on its website: “Cristiano Ronaldo is to leave Manchester United by mutual agreement, with immediate effect. The club thanks him for his immense contribution across two spells at Old Trafford, scoring 145 goals in 346 appearances, and wishes him and his family well for the future.”
Ronaldo gave a bombshell interview to Morgan, in which he criticized the club and manager Erik ten Hag. Sources told ESPN earlier that Manchester was reportedly seeking to terminate the 37-year-old’s contract after the revelations made by the footballer.
At the time, Morgan had revealed that Ronaldo had approached him to arrange the interview after he became frustrated at his situation at United. Ronaldo, in his interview with Morgan, said that he was surprised about how certain things at the club have remained the same since he was there for his last spell.
