The professor’s spell with Manchester United has been broken, as the Red Devils lost 1-0 to Wolves at Old Trafford. This marks the first time that they have suffered a defeat since Rangnick took over the reins from United’s former star player, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The last five matches saw United gain 13 points with four wins and a draw. However, with the 82nd goal from Joao Moutinho, this streak ended at their home ground. Moutinho pounced on a poorly cleared header from Phil Jones, at the edge of the penalty box, driving it into the bottom left corner of the post.

While the squad captained by Cristiano Ronaldo will be walking away disappointed, Moutinho spoke after the match in an interview with Sky Sports, saying, “Phil Jones headed out the ball. I tried to see where it went. After my first touch, I said I need to shoot. That’s what I need to do, to shoot more. A beautiful goal.”

Clearly, winning at Old Trafford has been a huge boost for Wolves, who have moved up to the eighth position on the table, just three spots behind United. Meanwhile, United after a lacklustre performance remains at seventh place, four points behind fourth-placed Arsenal with a game in hand.

United only managed one strong barrage of attacks between the 65th and 70th minute, and Moutinho has rightly labelled this as a deserved win for Wolves. He said, “We created a lot of shots in the first half. They changed a little bit to three centre-backs like us. We controlled everything. We only let them create one opportunity on the bar. We deserved it because of what we did over 90 minutes. I hope we can continue with this performance.”
