Pakistan’s former cricket captain and all-rounder, Shahid Afridi. has sparked yet another controversy. In his recent statement, he said that Pakistan used to defeat India so badly that the Indian players used to ask for forgiveness.

Afridi said, he always got a kick out of playing against India and that he played his career’s most enjoyable cricket, against India and Australia.

“I have always enjoyed India”, he said. “We’ve thrashed them a lot. I believe we’ve beaten them so much that they used to ask us for forgiveness after the match”, he added.

“I have enjoyed a lot playing against India and Australia, you have more pressure. They are good teams, big teams. Going and performing in their conditions is the big thing”, Afridi said on the Cric Cast show on YouTube.

He also said, his favourite inning was his 141 in the 1999 Chennai Test, against India. “My most memorable inning was the 141 against India, that too in India”, he said.

In the second innings, opening the batting, Afridi struck 21 boundaries and three sixes, as the wicket kept falling on the other end and took Pakistan to a respectable total of 286, out of which Afridi scored 141.

“I was not going on that trip, they were not taking me. Wasim bhai (Wasim Akram) and the chief selector that time supported me a lot. It was a very difficult tour and that inning was very important”, he said.

Afridi has raked up controversies recently, primarily for his comments on India and the Kashmir issue. In an address to Pakistan’s army personnel in May, that went viral on social media, he was spotted badmouthing the Indian Army and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, over the Kashmir issue.

The same month, he made yet another provocative statement, in which he asked the Pakistan Cricket Board to include a new team, Kashmir, in the next year’s Pakistan Super League (PSL). He expressed his desire to lead that team in his final year.
