Shakira congratulated the Moroccan players on winning against Portugal in the FIFA World Cup 2022 quarter-final at the Al Thumama Stadium saying ‘It’s time for Africa’ – the line from her 2010 song Waka Waka. They became the first African team ever to reach the semi-final of a FIFA World Cup.

Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk also tweeted a congratulation to the North African team for what they achieved in the World Cup in Qatar. On their way to the semi-final, they finished top of Group H, defeating Canada and Belgium.
In the Round of 16 they won against the 2010 World Cup winners Spain, and finally, the win against the 2016 European Cup winners Portugal which secured them a place in the semi-final.
With Chelsea’s Hakim Ziyech and PSG’s Achraf Hakimi leading the way, the North African team is yet to concede a goal in the FIFA World Cup 2022. The only goal against them came in the match against Canada but it was an own goal by Nayef Aguerd.

They will now be facing either England or France in the semi-final with the opportunity to become the first African team to reach the final of a FIFA World Cup. If they manage to do it, then they will create even more history making it indeed a World Cup of Africa.
The other semi-final of the FIFA World Cup was decided on Friday when Luca Modric’s Croatia and Lionel Messi’s Argentina went past Brazil and Netherlands respectively to lock horns in the semis.
