Golden State Warriors talisman Stephen Curry has withdrawn from Team USA for the Tokyo Olympics next month due to lingering effects of an injury, US media reports said.

Curry has never competed in the Olympics although he has won two FIBA World Cup titles with Team USA, one in 2010 and then again in 2014. He withdrew from the last Olympic contingent due to injury as well.

Curry will take the time off to nurse the lingering effects of a tailbone fracture, the Associated Press reported.

Team USA will go ahead with a training camp with Draymond Green, Kevin Durant, Damian Lillard, Bradley Beal, Jayson Tatum, Devin Booker, Bam Adebayo, and James Harden among others, a Mercury News report said.

Although an Olympic medal is not a necessity for Curry to cement his place in basketball history as a legend of the game, this may have been his last chance to grab one for his already brimming trophy cabinet as he will be 37 by the time the next there is a next time.
