Australian cricketer Steve Smith shared a throwback picture on Instagram on Monday to celebrate his completion of ten years in test cricket for the national team. Smith posted the picture on his Instagram handle and added, “It’s hard to believe it’s been 10 years since my Test debut. It’s been an amazing ride so far. Maybe another 10 years in me?”

Steve Smith, who began his career with the baggy greens on July 13, 2010,  quickly rose through the ranks of Australian cricket and took up the mantle of the captain in 2015 after Michael Clarke retired. Though Smith received his Test cap from the then captain Ricky Ponting in 2010 the cricketer from South Wales had to wait till 2013 for his breakthrough.

While Smith started his career as a right-arm leg spinner he has of late taken the center stage in Australian cricket and can be described as its poster boy.

In his Instagram post, Smith hoped that he continues to play for the national team for another ten years.

Smith has been described as the Fab Four of International Cricket by Martin Crowe along with Indian cricketer Virat Kohli, English batsman Joe Root, and New Zealand captain Kane Williamson.

Smith’s career, however, has been marred by controversy. The Australian starlet who received the ICC Cricketer of the year in 2015 and also secured the ICC Test Player of the year on two separate occasions was banned from International and Domestic cricket for a year over a ball-tampering scandal in March 2018.

Smith, however, marked his return to international cricket in 2019 in his usual rigour. Scoring at an average of 37.90 in the ICC World Cup of 2019 Smith became the second batsman after Sachin Tendulkar to score four 50 plus scores in cricket World Cup.

Smith carried on with his impeccable form in the Ashes series of 2019, scoring his 9th and 10th Ashes centuries in the first test match at Edgbaston. Smith’s third double-century in the fourth Test match of the Ashes series earned him immense praise from stalwarts like Sachin Tendulkar, Brad Hogg, and Michael Vaughan.

Smith who has been dubbed by Harsha Bhogle as Bradmanesque became the fastest Australian batsman to reach the 10,000 run mark in International cricket.
