Left-handed Pakistan batter Shan Masood was taken to a hospital on Friday, October 21, after he was hit on the head during a practice session in the nets at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). The 33-year-old suffered a hit on the right side of his head by a shot from Mohammad Nawaz during the practice session.

As per the latest reports, Masood has been taken for scans on his head in the hospital. After he suffered the hit, Masood was on the ground for quite some time before he was transported to the hospital. No updates regarding his current conditions have been announced till now.

The 33-year-old made his international debut against South Africa in a Test match on October 14 at Sharjah. He made his T20I debut for Pakistan only in the last month, against England in Karachi on September 20, 2022. He also represents Pakistan in ODI matches, since making his debut against Australia in Sharjah on March 22, 2019.

Masood has represented Pakistan in 25 Tests, 5 ODI and 12 T20I matches so far in his career. He has scored 1,378 runs in Tests, 111 runs in ODI and 220 runs in T20I till now. Since making his T20I debut, Masood has been in fine form, scoring 94 runs in his last five matches in the shortest format of the sport, including a half-century against England earlier this month.

His performance helped him to be called up for the T20 World Cup squad as a replacement for Fakhar Zaman, who has been struggling with a knee injury, however, has recovered in time for the tournament.

Pakistan will begin their T20 World Cup campaign against arch-rivals India on Sunday, October 23, at the MCG. They are also one of the favourites to advance to the knockouts from Group 2, which also consists of India and South Africa.
