Bangladesh faced the West Indies in a Super 12 stage group 1 match of the ICC men’s T20 World Cup on October 29 at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium, Sharjah. Till now, both teams have played two matches each and are yet to notch up a victory. Currently, Bangladesh are placed 5th in the group points table and the West Indies are placed last.

It is a must-win game for both nations, whoever loses the encounter will not be able to proceed further in the tournament.

Winning the toss, Bangladesh captain Mahmudullah said: “We are bowling first. They have got a big batting order. We want to restrict them and chase it down. Nurul, Nasum are not playing. Soumya and Taskin come in. We wanted more pacers because of the left-handers they have, which is why Nasum isn’t playing today.”

Losing the toss, the West Indies captain Kieron Pollard said: “We don’t have anyone else to blame, but ourselves. The clarity has been there but the team hasn’t batted well. This is the perfect opportunity to put it right. Two changes, Simmons misses out, Roston Chase makes his international T20 debut. Hayden Walsh makes way for Jason Holder. Gayle will be opening. Universe Boss has over 13000 runs opening the batting. It’s not just about one individual, the team has to come good.”

This is the third time in a row that the West Indies are batting first in this tournament. The Pollard-led team won the toss and chased in all six games in their successful WT20 2016 campaign in India.
