July 11, 2019, marked a very dramatic day for sports lovers. Two major finals took place on this day – one was the Cricket World Cup and the other was the Wimbledon men’s singles final. In the Cricket World Cup, it was England vs New Zealand and in tennis, it was Novak Djokovic vs Roger Federer.

And July 11, 2021, also marks a big day for sports fans. Two major finals are yet again taking place on this day – one is the Wimbledon men’s singles final and the other one is the Euro 2020 final. While the tennis final is being played between Djokovic and Matteo Berrettini, the football match will be played between England and Italy.

In Tennis, Djokovic, the World No 1, will be gunning for a sixth Wimbledon title and will be hoping the equal the record Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal’s record of 20 Grand Slams. His opponent, Berrettini, on the other hand, will be eyeing to become the first Italian to lift the Wimbledon title.

In Football, England are chasing the first major trophy in 55 years and are one victory away from lifting their first title since the 1966 World Cup.

The Wembley Stadium, where the final will be played, will see 60,000 fans in attendance. At the same time, millions across England will be glued to their seat in front of their respective television screen to view the majestic final.

Will 2021 see a repeat of 2019?

In 2019, Djokovic dispatched the Swiss maestro in a five-set thriller in a match that lasted over four hours – the longest ever Wimbledon men’s singles final.

So, can Djokovic repeat it against Berrettini and lift the elusive title yet again? It remains to be seen.

In cricket, England beat New Zealand in the final after a draw in the super over. While the match was a draw after the super over, England won the tie because they had more boundaries under their belt. It was a heartbreak for the Kane Williamson-led team.

So, if a parallel can be drawn, England may win the Euro Cup and bring home an international trophy after a gap of 55 years. They last won the 1966 World Cup.
