Despite a crushing defeat against the Netherlands on Saturday 3-1, which effectively ended USMNT’s journey in the FIFA World Cup 2022, football fans are praising the performance delivered by US goalkeeper Matt Turner, who delivered a stunning double save during the match.
Although the US made a bright start, they could not capitalize on their chances and were punished as the Netherlands found the lead just 10 minutes into the game. Memphis Depay was able to dispatch a neat finish past Turner and into the far corner.

However, the US goalkeeper did his best to deliver a cracking performance for his side to keep the US in the tournament. One of the highlights for the USMNT was Turner’s double save. He dove to his right to make the first one on a shot from distance. Then almost immediately he popped to his feet and kept Depay’s diving header out of the net, too.
His performance was appreciated by US football fans on Twitter.

“Arsenal signed Matt Turner for £5m He’s worth £35m now and NOT FOR SALE,” said one fan, while another noted, “Out of the world cup, but with his head high. Well done Matt Turner!” Another Twitter user commented, “Commiserations to Matt Turner of USA whose side has been knocked out of Fifa world cup. Player can now go on a break and return to Arsenal.” One more said, “Stunning Matt Turner double save.”
US captain Tyler Adams said the lack of experience hampered their chances against a more veteran team. “A game like that it comes down to the margins obviously,” Adams said. “And when you play a team with so much quality like that and you give them three, four chances they’re gonna put three or four away.”
