Former Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Asif has alleged that Waqar Younis used to get reverse swing by ‘cheating with the ball’. Asif said that Younis, who is currently the Pakistan bowling coach, did not know how to bowl with the new ball.

“He learnt to bowl with the new ball very late in his career. He used to cheat before that to get reverse swing with the old ball,” Asif said during an interview to a Pakistani news channel.

He also questioned why Pakistan hasn’t been able to produce another fast bowler who is good at reverse swing.

“If you were the master of reverse swing, why have you not been able to get a single other reverse swing bowler,” Asif said referring to Younis’ stint as the bowling coach of the national side.

Asif said that Pakistan had been producing quantity and not quality when it came to fast bowling.

In December last year, controversial Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir had announced retirement citing ‘shabby treatment’ from the management.
