Union Minister Kiren Rijiju, on International Mountain Day, has advised everybody to store the “beautiful and majestic mountains”, suggesting “sustainable tourism” is one manner to do that.

The Law Minister additionally shared a video in which he can be seen riding a horse towards the backdrop of white, snow-capped mountains.

“On the extremely special occasion of International Mountain Day, let’s pledge to save beautiful nature and majestic mountains. This year’s theme is “Sustainable Mountain Tourism”,” said Mr Rijiju.

In another post he can be seen riding a Yak and taking the feel of Archery.

During his visit to Ladakh to inaugurate the Khelo India Winter Sports Festival at Zanskar Valley in January, he had tweeted: “Snow Yak riding and horse riding are parts of the Khelo India Winter Sports Festival at Zanskar. Visitors can stay at homestay and local lodge and experience the beauty of Zanskar. The Ladakhi people are full of enthusiasm and welcoming.”

Khelo India Winter Sports Festival at Zanskar includes Snow Yak riding and horse riding as two of the most significant games. Furthermore, the beauty of Zanskar can be best felt by these visitors while they stay at local lodge and homestays, as it is no secret that Ladakhi people brim with positivity and enthusiasm.

International Mountain Day is a United Nations event which is celebrated to promote sustainable development of mountains and educate people about it. Mountains are home to 15% of the world’s population and nearly half of the world’s biodiversity hotspots.

International Mountain Day dates back to 2003 when it was celebrated for the first time. The theme for this year’s global event is “Sustainable Mountain Tourism”.

Mountain tourism offers a possibility of an additional livelihood option for people living in such high-altitude regions. This, in turn, aids in preserving the fascinating landscape and its biodiversity.
