The India bowling unit came out on top as they left the English batting line-up reeling and defeated in the fourth Test at the Oval, London, on Monday. With a huge 157-run victory, India now leads the five-match Test series 2-1. The Indian cricket team captain Virat Kohli happy with his team’s performance heaped praise on his players.
“We are not looking to survive in this game, we are here to win,” said an elated Kohli during the post-match presentation.
“Really proud of the character the team has shown. I said at Lord’s as well, I am proud of the character shown by the team, this is amongst the top three bowling performances I have witnessed as India captain,” Kohli said about his team’s bowling performance.
The Indian captain said that since the conditions were hot, they knew that there was an opportunity to chip away at the wickets and Ravindra Jadeja did just that. He said that the Indian pacers were good with the reverse swing.
The team had the belief to get all the 10 wickets and they did just that.
“As soon as the ball started reversing, Bumrah said give me the ball. He bowled that spell and swung the game in our favour with those two huge wickets,” Kohli said.
Talking about Shardul Thakur, Kohli said his batting was fantastic.
“What Shardul has done in this game stands out. His two fifties deflated the opposition. I think he batted well in both the innings,” the right-handed batsman said.
With Ravi Shastri testing positive for COVID-19, India will be missing his services in the last Test.
“It’s unfortunate (Ravi Shastri and co) they are not here. Everyone is happy with the win. It gives us more motivation to win the next Test. We have the belief, we are just looking forward to the opportunities.”
Final India vs England Test will be played at Manchester, starting September 10.
