Horwitz took to his social media writing, “He told me I was the first person from the organization who called him in over 50 years. Hobie, a left-handed catcher, was thrilled and said he always cherished his brief time with the Mets. Hobie and Roger Craig formed our first battery in the season opener back in 1962. Today I am so happy I made that call because last Thursday Hobie died at the age of 93. I am glad he knew we cared about him.”
The former MLB star passed away on Thursday at the age of 93. He is presently survived by his six children.

Who are Hobie Landrith’s children?
While just in his tenth grade, Landrith met his future wife Peggy at Estrabrook Grammar School. They were blessed with six children: Linda Landrith, Gary Landrith, Carol Landrith, Randy Landrith, Beth Landrith, and David Landrith. Landrith’s wife gave birth to Randy on November 18, 1954, while Landrith was participating in winter ball in Puerto Rico.
Hobie took Christmas day off work to fly home to visit his new baby at his own cost, with the team owner’s agreement. The drawback of this was that despite having the third-highest batting average in the league, his team dismissed him after paying for a flight return and only having him compete in a single match. Later, his son David was born on October 14, 1961, at Mills Hospital in San Mateo, California, four days after Landrith was selected by the Mets.
Landrith is now survived by his wife, Peggy, their sons and daughters, his brother Dale, 11 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.
