Atanu Das is an Indian archer. He competes in the Recurve Men’s Individual and Team tournaments for India. He made his international debut in 2008 and is now ranked No. 9 in the world.

He’s married to Deepika Kumari, a fellow archery player and erstwhile World no.1.

India’s biggest prospects are this husband-wife duo in Archery at the Tokyo Olympics, who would look to recreate the magic of the Paris World Cup at Tokyo.

While wife Deepika Kumari was in action in the women’s individual qualification rounds for archery, Das, along with Pravin Jadhav and Tarundeep Rai featured in the men’s individual qualification rounds.

The 29-year-old Arjuna award recipient began archery at the age of 14 and advanced to the Tata Archery Academy’s elite level in 2008. Das competed in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, but could not achieve the expected results.

At the 2013 Asian Archery Grand Prix in Thailand, Das earned three bronze medals: One bronze medal in the recurve men’s solo event, and two bronze medals in the recurve mixed team and recurve men’s team events.

At the 2013 Archery World Cup, Das took bronze in the Recurve Mixed Team. Das earned Silver and Bronze in the Recurve Men’s Team and Mixed Team events at the 2014 Archery World Cup in Medellin, and Silver in the Recurve Men’s Team event in Wroclaw a year later.

He worked hard to improve as an archer and won the men’s team silver medal at the World Championships in the Netherlands in 2019 with Tarundeep Rai and Pravin Jadhav, securing a team quota spot in the Olympics. He progressed much more this year, winning his first World Cup solo gold in Guatemala and a second gold with wife Deepika in the mixed team event at World Cup-III in Paris.

The Kolkata-based archer  began his career at Kolkata Archery Club, a community club on the city’s northern outskirts. Amit Das, Das’s father, admits that training him in archery was a gamble, but his son showed potential early on. He also graduated from Vinayaka Mission University in Salem, Tamil Nadu, with a BA (Hons) degree.
