Effective immediately, Chris Partridge, Michigan’s LB coach has been fired, per several reports.

The University of Michigan’s athletic director, Warde Manuel, made an announcement on Friday morning regarding the dismissal of linebackers coach Chris Partridge. In an official statement, Manuel stated, “Effective today, Chris Partridge has been relieved of his duties as a member of the Michigan Football staff. Rick Minter will serve as the team’s linebackers coach.”

The newly appointed linebackers coach, Rick Minter, brings a wealth of experience to the role and notably is the father of the current Michigan defensive coordinator, Jesse Minter. Rick has an extensive history in football, having served as the head coach for Cincinnati from 1994 to 2003 and as the linebackers coach for the Philadelphia Eagles from 2013 to 2016.

Who is Chris Partridge?

Chris Partridge rejoined the University of Michigan in February 2023 for his second stint with the university. Previously, he held the position of director of player personnel in 2015 and served as the special teams coordinator from 2016 to 2019. In 2020, Partridge moved to Ole Miss, where he took on the role of co-defensive coordinator and safeties coach. Notably, he assumed the primary defensive play-caller responsibilities in 2022.

This development comes in the wake of the University of Michigan’s announcement on Thursday that head coach Jim Harbaugh will undergo a three-game suspension imposed by the Big Ten. The conference has decided to conclude its investigation into a sign-stealing scheme as part of an agreement to settle the school’s lawsuit against the league. The coaching staff changes and the suspension contribute to a period of significant transition and adjustment within the University of Michigan’s football program.
