Dennis John Hernandez, the brother of Aaron Hernandez, was arrested last week after he allegedly planned and threatened to carry out shootings at Brown University and the University of Connecticut.
According to a Bristol (Connecticut) Police Department incident report, Hernandez, 37, was held on a $250,000 bond and charged with threatening and disturbing the peace.

According to the report, Hernandez had been “displaying very erratic behavior lately” and was “extremely sick, and his mental health is continuing to deteriorate,” and two people had come forward to the police to express their concerns.
Hernandez allegedly borrowed a witness’ car on July 7 to go to a court date but instead traveled to the campuses of UConn and Brown to “‘map the schools out,'” according to the police report.
The witness reported that Hernandez had said, “He has a bullet for everyone,” and went on to say that she thought Hernandez was “extremely sick.” Two weeks later, on July 19, Hernandez allegedly published a number of threatening posts. “‘Will I kill? Absolutely. I’ve warned my enemies so pay upfront,’” the last line of one of the posts read.
Hernandez was “gravely disabled and a danger to society,” according to the report, so Bristol Police sent several officers to his home on July 19. Hernandez allegedly told police over the phone that he was armed and that “if we approached him, he would kill us all” as they were surrounding the house.

Hernandez played quarterback and wide receiver for the Huskies football team from 2004 through 2008, serving as the club’s captain twice. He also spent one season (2011) as Brown’s quarterbacks coach.
Dennis John Hernandez, known as D.J. and Jonathan, is the older sibling of former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez, who was found guilty of killing semi-pro football player Odin Lloyd in 2013 on April 15, 2015. On April 19, 2017, just a few days after being cleared of a 2012 double homicide, Aaron Hernandez committed suicide. He was given a CTE (chronic traumatic encephalopathy) diagnosis after his death.
