Novak Djokovic has defeated fellow Serbian Laslo Djere in the third round of US Open.

Throughout his career, Novak Djokovic has worked with a number of coaches that have helped him win multiple accolades. Goran Ivanisevic, the champion at Wimbledon in 2001, has been the Serb’s coach for over four years at this point.

Who is Goran Ivanisevic?

Ivanievic is a Croatian tennis coach who used to play professionally from 1988 to 2004. He is the only athlete to win a Wimbledon men’s singles championship as a wild card. He accomplished this in 2001 despite holding a world ranking of 125 after finishing in the runners-up position at Wimbledon in 1992, 1994, and 1998. Ivanišević’s highest singles position throughout his career was No. 2 in the world, attained in July 1994.

Goran is the son of Gorana and Srđan Ivanišević. He was trained by Jelena Genčić when he was young. He became a professional in 1988, and with Rüdiger Haas, he won his first doubles championship later that year in Frankfurt. Despite concentrating mostly on his singles career, he also saw some success in doubles, taking home nine titles and rising as high as 20 in the rankings.

From September 2013 until July 2016, he coached Marin Čilić, helping him win his lone major championship at the 2014 US Open. Since 2019, he has been Novak Djokovic’s coach. He was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 2020.
