Who is Juan Carlos Ferrero?

Spanish-born Juan Carlos Ferrero played tennis professionally in the past. He was born on February 12, 1980, in Ontinyent, Valencia, Spain. Ferrero, who was one of the top athletes in the early 2000s, is best recognized for his extraordinary clay court abilities.

In September 2003, Ferrero achieved the world No. 1 singles ranking, capping off a stellar ATP Tour career. He accomplished this after winning his first and only Grand Slam championship at the 2003 French Open, where he defeated Martin Verkerk in the final match. He also advanced to the US Open final in 2003 and the French Open final in 2002.

In addition to his Grand Slam success, Ferrero was a dominant force in other important competitions, taking home multiple Masters 1000 crowns and helping Spain win the Davis Cup in 2000, which had a big impact on the team’s achievement. His aggressive groundstrokes, especially his forehand, and clay court defense prowess defined his playing style.

Ferrero continued to play tennis after he retired as a professional in 2012. In 2017, he started his coaching career by working with No. 11-ranked tennis player Alexander Zverev. Their partnership came to an end in February 2018 allegedly as a result of disagreements over professional matters.

Carlos Alcaraz, who was only 16 years old at the time, began receiving coaching from Ferrero in 2019. Alcaraz has won 10 titles on the ATP tour as of May 2023, under Ferrero’s direction.
