Jonas Vingegaard and Tadej Pogacar are once again at the top of the list of favorites for the Tour de France 2023.
Vingegaard will want to avoid risks on the tricky descents and, presumably, will not want to draw attention to his winning margin after all the doping questions he’s faced in recent days, as per Betting Betfair.
Who is Jonas Vingegaard?
Jonas Vingegaard Rasmussen is a Danish professional cyclist who competes for UCI WorldTeam Team Jumbo-Visma. He was victorious in the Tour de France in 2022.
Vingegaard began riding as a youngster for several Danish teams, and in 2016, he made his senior riding debut with the UCI Continental team ColoQuick-Cult.
He made an impression at the Tour de Pologne as a member of Team Jumbo-Visma, which he joined in 2019, and he rode as a domestique for Primož Roglič at the Vuelta a España.
Tom Dumoulin was replaced by Vingegaard in the team’s Tour de France lineup in April 2021. Vingegaard initially competed in the Tour as a domestique for Roglič, one of the top favorites for the overall classification. Roglič crashed and later withdrew, leaving Vingegaard as the lone general classification candidate for the team. After attacking on Mont Ventoux, where he eliminated eventual race winner Tadej Pogačar and came in second overall, he attracted attention from all around the world.

Together with Tadej Pogacar, Vingegaard was a favorite for the general classification in the 2022 Tour de France. The Col du Granon was utilized as the stage’s penultimate climb; it hadn’t been used since 1986 when Greg LeMond took the yellow jersey away from Bernard Hinault. Roglic, alongside Christophe Laporte, Steven Kruijswijk, and Wout van Aert, attacked Pogacar on the Col du Télégraphe and Col du Galibier for Team Jumbo-Visma, supporting Vingegaard.
At the halfway point of the last hill, Vingegaard launched an attack and dropped Pogacar for the second time in his career; however, this time, Pogacar was unable to recover. Vingegaard won the stage, took home the yellow jersey, and overtook Pogacar by +2:51, thanks to his unrelenting progress. As a result, Pogacar dropped to third place behind Romain Bardet in second place, giving Vingegaard the lead. For the remainder of the Tour, Vingegaard held onto the yellow jersey and dropped Pogacar on the final ascent of Hautacam after waiting for a short period of time for Pogacar to recover following a fall, demonstrating good sportsmanship. He ultimately won the 2022 Tour de France thanks to his efforts.
