Ex-NBA star Shawn Kemp fired a gun during a parking lot altercation before his felony arrest on Wednesday. Kemp approached a vehicle and pointed his weapon, appearing to yell something before pulling the trigger at least once outside a Tacoma, Washington shopping mall around 2 AM, reported TMZ. The 53-year-old was wearing a red vest.

According to TMZ report, witnesses said they heard multiple gunshots before pulling their phones out to record the incident and claim they saw Kemp drive around the parking and throwing his gun in a bush before talking to police.

Video of the incident shows police officers searching the parking lot landscaping before retrieving a handgun from a bush.

The 53-year-old was booked for felony drive-by shooting at 5:58 PM at the Pierce County Jail.

Who is Marvena L Thomas?

Marvena L Thomas was the first wife of Shawn Kemp. They got married in 2001 in a private ceremony. The former couple had three children, including Shawn Kemp Jr and Jamon Kemp, who both played college basketball. Kemp Jr had a four-stint at the University of Washington. Jamon represented Southeastern Louisiana University for a year.

Shawn Kemp had seven children from six different women. Kemp had four marriages after Marvena, but still speaks highly of her. Reportedly, Marlena forgave him for his infidelities.

She was also involved in basketball in her own right. Marvena is the former co-director of the Northwest College Summer League. She organized several pro-am basketball tournaments, particularly in Seattle.
