Mike Tyson is a former American professional boxer and is considered to be one of the world’s greatest heavyweight boxers of all time. Tyson competed from 1985 to 2005. 

American subscription streaming service, Hulu is set to release a biographical limited series on the famed boxer, titled Mike. The eight-episode series will cover the life and career of “The Baddest Man on the Plant”. Tyson himself has spoken out against the show on Instagram, saying, “Don’t let Hulu fool you. I don’t support their story about my life. It’s not 1822. It’s 2022. They stole my life story and didn’t pay me. To Hulu executives I’m just a N**** r they can sell on the auction block. 

Who is Mike Tyson?

Mike Tyson was born on June 30, 1966 in Fort Green in the Brooklyn borough of New York City. The heavyweight champion had a rough childhood after his father left before he was born and his mother’s death when he was 16. Tyson was left in the care of his boxing coach Cus D’Amato. When he was 13, he had already been arrested 38 times.

In the Junior Olympic Games in 1981 and 1982, Tyson won gold. In 1985, he made his professional amateur debut at the age of 18. By 1986, he had been given his first title fight and he became the youngest heavyweight champion in history after defeating Trevor Berbick. For most of his career afterwards, Tyson remained a boxing menace, especially with his signature right hook followed by a right uppercut into his opponents’ chins. 

Tyson’s personal life was messy. His first marriage was to actress Robin Givens from 1988 to 1989. Their relationship was marred by allegations of violence and spousal abuse. Much later, in an autobiographical book titled Fire and Fear: The Inside Story of Mike Tyson,  the now 56-year-old admitted to punching her. In 1992, he was convicted for the rape of Desiree Washington, an 18-year-old model, and was imprisoned for three years. Tyson maintains to this day that he was innocent. 

He married Monica Turner in 1997 and their marriage lasted until 2003. Their marriage was marred by the boxers frequent extramarital affairs. They had two children together.

He wed for a third time in 2009, marrying his long-term girlfriend Lakikha Spicer. The couple have two children.
