Sajan Prakash on Saturday became the first-ever Indian swimmer to breach the ‘A’ Olympic qualification time at the FINA-accredited Olympic qualifier in Rome.
The 27-year-old usually competes in freestyle, butterfly, and medley events.
He made history by claiming six gold and three silver medals in the 2015 National Games in Kerala on February 8, 2015, and became the greatest athlete of the Indian National Games, which were held in Trivandrum, Kerala.

The 27-year-old was the lone Indian male swimmer to participate in the 200-meter butterfly event at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio.
When Prakash set an Indian national record time of 1:56.38 in the 200 m butterfly event at the 2021 Sette Colli Trophy in Rome, he became the first Indian swimmer to surpass the standard of the Olympic qualifications. With this time, the swimmer has qualified for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in the 200 m butterfly event.

Prakash currently has 11 Indian national swimming records to his name in the freestyle, butterfly, medley, and relay events.
