Tanner Morgan, born on April 17, 1999, began his football journey in Hazard, Kentucky. He attended Hazard High School before transferring to Ryle High School in Union, Kentucky during his junior year. In his senior year, he showcased impressive skills, passing for 2,747 yards and achieving 27 touchdowns. Initially committing to Western Michigan University, he later switched to the University of Minnesota after P. J. Fleck took charge in 2017.

Morgan embarked on his college career at Minnesota in 2017, redshirting his first year. Despite initially serving as Zack Annexstad’s backup in 2018, he eventually became the starting quarterback for the final six games of the season. During this period, he played nine games, completing 89 of 152 passes for 1,401 yards, with nine touchdowns and six interceptions.
