Jaylen Brown, representing Team LeBron in the 2023 NBA All-Star game, wore a face mask.

The 26-year-old suffered a facial fracture after taking an elbow to the face from his now-teammate Jayson Tatum late in the first half of the Celtics’ 106-99 win over the Philadelphia 76ers.

“He was quiet. He was in a lot of pain,” teammate Malcolm Brogdon told the Boston Herald at the time. “Just told him to feel better. There’s nothing I think we can do for him. But he was in a lot of pain when he left, so we’ll pray for him.”

Despite the injury, Brown was back on the court in the first quarter of Sunday’s All-Star game. He was picked by LeBron James while he was going up against Jayson Tatum and Team Giannis, along with C’s coach Joe Mazzulla. He was also seen wearing the mask at the All-Star practice. Tatum made his fourth All-Star appearance on Sunday.
“Had to get a couple scans, see a bunch of specialists and different doctors to get all the info,” Brown said earlier this week. “But they came to the determination I don’t have to have surgery, so that’s the good thing. I’m just happy that I don’t have to go through that process because I probably would have missed a lot more games. So I don’t think it’ll be too long.”

According to Mass Live, going forward Brown might be playing on the court wearing a mask. It’s the second time in three seasons that Brown has played in the All-Star game while having a career season.
