If Wimbledon locals are to believed, the decorum inside the venue doesn’t extend beyond its boundaries. While the lawns of the All England Tennis and Croquet club retain a sense of Victorian morality, it masks a raunchy underbelly. After the day draws to a close, the air around the London borough is often thick with a ravish spirit as boozy fans spill onto the streets. As per residents of the London borough, it is not uncommon to find drugs and alcohol flowing like the Thames or even a sneaky sex party on a street corner!

Such has been their nuisance that Wimbledoners are taking extra steps to curb street-side raves from breaking out. Signboards have mushroomed across the leafy neighbourhood, carrying the message:

“Game, Sex, and Match. NO THANKS! Visiting tennis fans please respect our park and woodland. Anti-social behaviour such as drugs, booze and sex parties will not be tolerated. Police patrol this area regularly and you have been warned. Thanks for your consideration. Enjoy the tennis”.

An anonymous resident expressed his dissatisfaction with the state of affairs, lamenting how polite telling-offs have been met with derision in the past:

“I’ve seen couples having sex, drugs parties, everything really.”

“With so many fans camping in the park, it turns into a big party after dark and people just get carried away especially if they’ve been knocking back the Pimm’s all day. We’ve put notices up in the past, but they just get ripped down. Hopefully, the police will step up their patrols this year and kick out anyone they catch wanting a love match,” quotes the Daily Mail.

With over 500,000 spectators expected to file through the gates of the famous old venue over two weeks, Wimbledoners are fretting about the prospect of raves on a mass scale, last seen before the outbreak of Covid 19.
