Women’s Cricket World Cup is all set to commence on Friday and the Indian team has already shown that it is determined to bring home the trophy. The team won both of its warm-up matches — one against South Africa and the other against West Indies.

Here is all you need to know about the upcoming championship:

-New Zealand will be hosting the tournament this year, however, the recent outbreak of COVID-19 in the country may limit the stadium audience. New Zealand is battling an omicron outbreak with more than 20,000 cases a day and crowds will be restricted to 10% of venue capacity.

-Eight teams will be in fray for the title: Australia, England, New Zealand, Pakistan, West Indies, South Africa, India and Bangladesh.

-The games will be played in a round-robin format. The 50-over matches will be hosted across six venues in New Zealand, substantially increasing domestic travel for the teams.

-Organisers will allow matches to be rescheduled in the event of a COVID-19 outbreak but also have an extraordinary plan in an extreme scenario that would allow teams to field nine players and two substitutes drawn from their management contingents, according to reports from Associated Press.

-Women’s ODI Cricket World Cup was last organised in 2017, when England took home the trophy after beating India in the final. The Australian team has won the title six times so far, the most won by any team.

-Australia won the women’s Twenty20 World Cup on home soil in March 2020, beating India in the final in front of more than 86,000 people at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

-The eight teams at the World Cup will be competing for a prize pool of $3.5 million, an increase of 75% from the previous tournament. The winner will receive $1.32 million, double the winner’s prize in 2017.
