Former England captain Michael Vaughan thinks
India will become a formidable force under Rahul Dravid, warning the rest of
the world to “beware” if reports suggesting that the Indian batting legend will
replace Ravi Shashtri as the head coach are true.

Multiple media organisations have reported, citing BCCI sources, that Dravid has already agreed to an offer from the
cricketing body to take over as the head coach after Shashtri’s tenure ends
after the upcoming T20 World Cup in the UAE and Oman. So far, the BCCI has made
no official announcement in this matter.

In a tweet, Vaughan said “If it’s true
Rahul Dravid is to be the next Indian coach I think the rest of the world
better beware… !”

Dravid is one of the most universally liked
personalities in cricket and the news of him potentially becoming India’s next
head coach was well-received by fans and experts alike.

Former Indian batsman Wasim Jaffer jokingly
said that Shardul Thakur, who is celebrating his 30th birthday
today, must have wished for Dravid becoming the coach.

“Till yesterday news reports were saying
Rahul Dravid was going to stay at the NCA. Yet early morning news broke of him
becoming India coach. So what happened around midnight? My best guess is Lord
Shardul blew candles on his birthday cake wishing to be coached by Rahul bhai,”
he tweeted.

Popularly known as ‘The Wall’ of Indian
cricket, Dravid is currently serving as the head of the National Cricket
Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, a role he will have to step down from if he takes
up the Indian coaching job.

Dravid has previously been in charge of the Indian
Premier League (IPL) franchise Rajasthan Royals and Delhi Daredevils. He has also overseen the India A and U-19 setup for the last six years. During his
time as the U-19 coach, India finished runners up in the 2016 World Cup, while
winning the trophy in 2019.
