In spite of the younger generations making their move into rival social
media platforms such as TikTok, Facebook has visibly managed to retain its user
numbers in the US, a new study showed.

The study conducted by the Pew Research Centre study from
earlier this year noted that 69% of adults in the US use Facebook and 72%
use at least a single social media platform.

“While there has been much written about Americans’
changing relationship with Facebook, its users remain quite active on the
platform.

Seven-in-ten Facebook users say they use the site daily,
including 49% who say they use the site several times a day”, AFP quoted
the researchers behind the study as saying.

Facebook’s usage in the United States went through major
turbulences in recent years, including the Cambridge Analytica controversy just
ahead of the 2016 elections in the country.

The scandal included access on the company’s part to
personal data of millions of American citizens, not to mention large scale
worries concerning disinformation and privacy in the platform.

Reportedly, the research portrayed a growth in the usage
of Facebook-owned Instagram, as well as other platforms like Snapchat and
TikTok for those under the age limit of 30.

21% of all adults, including 48% of those under the age
of 30, said they, at least for once, have used TikTok.

A clear favourite among younger generations (between the
age of 18 and 29) was Instagram with 71% of users accessing it, as well as
Snapchat (65%) which closely follows the former on its heels.
