Icy Interstate 94 roadways resulted in a major pileup involving over 100 automobiles, including an overturned semi-truck that erupted into flames.
Due to freezing rain in the region, traffic on the slippery I-94 was gridlocked from Osseo to Northfield in west-central Wisconsin on Thursday morning.

The incident included over 100 automobiles, leading the I-94 near Osseo and Eau Claire to be completely shut down.
Several automobiles couldn’t get up the slopes on that stretch of I-94, according to Wisconsin State Patrol Sergeant Sean Berkowitch, leading multiple cars to become trapped.
“There is a massive crash involving many vehicles both directions Northfied to Osseo and Osseo to Northfield,” the sheriff’s office said in a Facebook post. “Emergency vehicles need to be able to get to the scene.”
State Patrol and other first responders were working on four or five active incidents on the slippery highway, including a semi-truck engulfed in flames, according to officials.
According to Channel 3000, dispatchers described the situation as “too many vehicles to count.”

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office issued a statement indicating that all roads in the county are ice-covered and slick, and that residents should stay at home and travel only when needed.
Near Trempealeau and Jackson Counties, the slippery I-94 was closed in both directions.
Multiple roadways south of US 8 in the NWR, including I-94, US 63, US 53, US 10, WIS 35, and WIS 29, are coated in ice, according to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation Northwest Region.

Drivers in the region are advised to seek alternate routes because the I-94 will most likely be closed for the majority of the day.
It was unclear whether anyone had been hurt.
For miles, traffic was backed up.

According to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, there were many more ice-covered highways in the area.
The hazardous driving conditions were caused by freezing rain and extremely low temperatures.
